Imagine this: you have an idea—for an app, a chatbot, a data dashboard, or even a piece of biotech software—and you can bring it to life in days, not weeks. That’s what AI allows us to do today in 2025. With tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, Devin, and no-code platforms, building in computer science no longer requires months of manual coding or expert-level skills. You simply need curiosity—and a good prompt.
Many believe that you MUST have to know all the skills to develop and code—instead, the reality is you can begin by describing the problem or tool you want to build. For example, you might say, “I want to create a web app that tracks my plant’s watering schedule and reminds me via email or text.” From that simple prompt, generative models can step in and assist in ways that used to be unimaginable, almost impossible!
AI then help and suggest a technical architecture, break down the idea into tasks that must be completed, write pseudocode, sketch out the user interface flow, and even recommend the best libraries, datasets, and frameworks to use. What used to require hours of planning and technical skill can now be accomplished in minutes with the help of AI. Suddenly, brainstorming logic, designing features, and planning a user interface is accessible to anyone with an idea and a few words to describe it.
Autocomplete is just the BEGINNING!!
Many various, modern coding assistants such as the GitHub Copilot, Codeium, or even Cursor have gone far beyond just completing single lines of code. Instead, now they can help and assist in generating entire blocks of code based upon the users wants and needs within the app, scaffolding new projects across multiple files, building UI components, and even creating fully functional REST APIs and database models. Some of these tools can even search for and autonomously fix bugs, this allows for the developer to save a LOT of time and making the development process much more smoother. Think of these tools as your partners that can not only help you brainstorm about how to improve your idea but also provide a first draft for your code. You can then refine and expand upon their work, allowing you to focus more on problem-solving and creativity portions. Just a decade ago, in 2015, the idea of an AI writing and debugging parts of your code would have seemed like science fiction. Today, it’s becoming the new normal.
In fact today, for those who don’t want to write code at all, AI-enhanced no-code platforms are making software development more and more approachable than ever. Prompt-based interfaces, such as Replit Ghostwriter or Anthropic’s Claude, can generate backend logic from simple text descriptions and inputs. Various tools such as Glide and Bubble allow you to drag and drop your way to a fully functional app—with AI taking care of all of the necessary logic behind the scenes. And with voice-driven design tools currently in development, it won’t be long before we can even describe an idea out loud and see it come to life on screen. This shift empowers non-technical users—such as biologists, healthcare workers, and educators—to build and test digital tools specific to their domains.
In computer science, artificial intelligence is significantly reducing all of the entrance barriers. Here are some real-world examples: a high school student can develop a healthcare chatbot prototype in a matter of days; a social entrepreneur can quickly spin up a crisis response dashboard using AI-generated backend code; and a biology student who wishes to classify cell images can train a neural network with little setup, assisted by AI. Previously, only people with years of technical knowledge and skills could handle these situations; however, now anyone can now develop software products that have a significant influence if they have an idea and the motivation to produce.
Don’t get me wrong, AI isn’t replacing creativity- instead it truly is amplifying it. Whether you’re a student who has a strong desire to launch their first app, or a domain expert trying to debug bugs, or even an entrepreneur racing to bring a brand new product to life; AI tools are allowing to make the process faster, smarter, and much more accessible to all! Your next big idea doesn’t need a team of expert developers, instead all you need is a prompt- and the curiosity to build it. So what are you waiting for, GO BUILD!
